Atlético Madrid at Spanish Super Cup

Atlético Madrid, or Atlético Madrid FC, is one of Spain's most decorated clubs, founded in 1903. The team plays its home matches at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano stadium. An eleven-time Spanish champion, Atlético has also won the national cup ten times and the UEFA Europa League three times (2009/10, 2011/12, 2017/18).

Since December 2011, the team has been led continuously by Argentine manager Diego Simeone — one of the most successful and recognizable coaches in the history of Spanish football. Under his tenure, Atlético has consistently ranked among the leaders in La Liga and is experiencing one of the most brilliant periods in its history. Simeone’s contract with the club has been extended until June 30, 2027. Midfielder Koke remains the team's long-standing captain; Atlético has been his club throughout his entire career.

Atlético's statistics for the 2025/26 season were mixed: focusing on cup competitions, the club confidently advanced to the Spanish Cup final — defeating Barcelona on aggregate along the way — but lost the decisive match on April 18, 2026, to Real Sociedad in a penalty shootout (2–2; 3–4 on penalties).

The Spanish Super Cup match against Barcelona in Istanbul offers Atlético Madrid a chance to build on their successful record against the Catalan side and vie for the season's first trophy.
